Method
Patty Preparation
  • Mash the Beans
In a large bowl, mash the black beans using a fork or potato masher until most of the beans are broken down but still have some texture.
  • Mix the Ingredients
Add finely chopped onion, garlic, grated carrot, oats, egg, and spices to the mashed beans. Season with salt and pepper, then mix until everything is well combined.
  • Shape the Patties
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into round burger patties.
  • Cook the Patties
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry each patty for about 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and firm.
Assembly
  • Prepare the Buns
Lightly toast the burger buns if desired. This adds texture and prevents sogginess.
  • Build the Burger
Place lettuce on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the veggie patty, tomato slices, red onion, pickles, and your sauce of choice. Top with the other half of the bun.
